Who am I?

I am Michel Devanakis, a contemporary Greek painter based in Marathon, Greece. I was born in Douala, Cameroon in 1962 and studied Graphic Arts and Advertising in France before dedicating myself fully to painting.

I work primarily in oil on canvas, blending realism with symbolism and subtle surreal undertones. My paintings often explore themes of transformation, identity, mythology, the feminine figure and emotional introspection.

What techniques do I use?

I paint à la prima, applying fresh paint over fresh paint in one continuous session. This approach allows me to capture immediacy, emotion and chromatic intensity without heavy layering. In some cases, I integrate digital composition in the preparatory phase to refine structure and atmosphere before moving to the canvas.
