Logistics for Unique Original Works

My preferred method for international delivery is shipping the canvas rolled in a heavy-duty, reinforced tube. Decades of experience in art logistics show that for large oil paintings, this is the most secure way to travel across continents. By carefully unmounting the canvas from its rigid stretcher bars, we eliminate the primary causes of transit damage: vibration and mechanical shock to the wood frame.

Process & Security

  • Archival Preparation: The painted surface is protected with acid-free glassine and rolled "face-out" to minimize surface tension and prevent any potential for cracking or paint adhesion.

  • Heavy-Duty Housing: The work is placed inside a second, larger, industrial-grade tube to provide an air-cushioned barrier against external pressure.

  • Mandatory Export Permit: In compliance with Greek law, every original work exported requires a permit from the Greek National Gallery. This process takes approximately 7 days and serves as an official record of the work’s cultural status.

  • Insurance: Every original shipment is fully insured for the total invoice value.

Optional:

Custom Wooden Crate While the reinforced tube is my recommendation for safety and speed, collectors may request a custom-built wooden crate. Please note that this method requires an additional 5 days for construction and involves significantly higher freight and handling costs.

Unique Original Works: Acquisition Workflow

To ensure the highest level of service and security for my international collectors, I utilize a phased acquisition process:

  1. Securing the Work: A non-refundable deposit is required to secure the painting and remove it from the available inventory.

  2. Institutional & Logistical Processing: Upon receipt of the deposit, I begin the mandatory authorization process with the Greek National Gallery to obtain the necessary export permit. Simultaneously, the work undergoes professional archival preparation for transit.

  3. Final Valuation & Dispatch: Once the export permit is issued (typically within 7 days) and packaging is finalized, the collector is notified to fulfill the remaining balance.

  4. Shipment: The work is dispatched immediately upon receipt of the final payment in full.

Timeline Note: Please note that the final processing and shipping timeline commences only after the full balance has been received. This ensures that the work is fully insured for the total invoice value before it leaves the studio.
